International watchmaker with over 29 years experience
Richard McMahon trained as a horologist first in Adelaide and Sydney before moving to London and working on Bond Street as a contractor for Cartier and as the preferred vintage restorer for Rolex, JLC and Breitling at Somlo Antiques in Piccadilly London. Specialising in complicated movements, Richard is a vintage watch expert, specialising in chronographs, repeating watches and hand-makes components such as balance staffs and winding stems, which have long since gone out of production. A member of Watch and Clockmakers Australia Richard returned to his hometown of Adelaide, South Australia in 2015 and established a studio on King William Street Adelaide. R. McMahon Watchmakers has quickly expanded over the interceding years and now boasts some of the most advanced watchmaking equipment in Australia. We service clients timepieces across Australia, Asia and Europe.

Due to our workload we are taking a minimum of 4 weeks to service watches. We give priority to Omega and Rolex service. Minimum 3 months on complications like vintage minute repeaters and complicated chronographs. We charge a quote fee of $25 for basic quotes and $50 for complications, not charged for if the repair is booked in at that time. We do request a 20% deposit on proceeding with repairs. We are still taking in Omega and Rolex and Breitling with a faster turnaround as they are our specialty. Our central Adelaide city studio contains a combination of cutting-edge and traditional watchmaking equipment. We restore wristwatches to exacting standards. We do not service basic quartz or fashion watches as this is not our area of watch repair. Where possible, R. McMahon Watchmakers source original parts for the sympathetic and authentic restoration of valuable time pieces but are also able to custom-make components that have long since lapsed in production or become extinct on the market. For example, some early Rolex and Cartier parts are no longer available, as a qualified and trusted restorer will manufacture parts in my workshop here as I was trusted to do by the service centres in London. We restore Rolex Submariner, Rolex Sea Dweller, Omega Speedmaster and Omega Seamaster in our workshop regularly.
Our postage address for watches is R. McMahon, PO Box 1447, Adelaide 5001.

Made in Adelaide, South Australia
Richard worked in Europe advising independent watch manufacturers as a technical expert and helped with fine tuning of some of the products we see available today. We are not able to mention the companies due to contract agreements. In 2015, founder of R. McMahon Watchmakers, Richard McMahon has embarked on an ambitious journey: to manufacture an Australian-made timepiece in Adelaide, with a large percentage (over 80%) of custom built components. Most moving parts and casings will be hand-made on equipment in the R. McMahon studio on King William Street. An exclusive list of clients has been invited to collaborate on this project with our founder. Each client will inform the aesthetic outcome of their watch – the design of the dial, the watch hands and the size and shape of the case based on their own preference. Tourbillon and quarter repeater on offer. In an Australian first Richard McMahon is offering to manufacture a completely custom watch to a customer’s specification, custom complications on request, working with local artisans in enamel dial manufacture and hand engraving to ensure the finished product is a world-class timepiece, native to its place of manufacture in Adelaide, South Australia.
